Drawing043Karateposes

Today marked the end of what was a very busy stint of shooting over the past couple of weeks.  And now begins the editing process…

Today I was privileged enough to get to fly up to Pixar in Emeryville for a shoot.  It was a pretty hectic day.  Like every trip to Pixar, I was once again inspired by all the artwork up on the walls.  This time around all of the artwork was from the film “Brave”.  There were some really amazing pieces but I was particularly blown away by the pencil drawings of Steve Pilcher.  I’ve learned that Steve Pilcher was in fact the head production designer on the film and there was a lot of artwork by him on the walls. But it was his pencil drawings in particular that really stood out to me.  His drawings have such soft subtle pencil strokes and shading. He seems to have a way of rendering light which actually makes the picture appear to glow.  Here’s a good link to see what I mean.  Scroll down and look for the soft black and white nature drawings.  These drawings in particular make me think of the artist Tyrus Wong and his backgrounds for Bambi.

Anywho, you’d think that I was inspired to draw some kind of masterpiece tonight.  Well, the truth is, I was exhausted once I got home. So, I decided to do something a little quicker.  I google image searched the term “Karate Poses” and found a nice image with a compilation of different karate poses.  I decided to roughly draw a few of them for myself.  It’s always good to get a little body posing practice.
