I probably spent a bit too much time on this drawing because I had planned on doing a bit of work late this evening. I have a pretty tight schedule for this rough cut that I am cutting at work. I will most likely be working at the office very late tomorrow evening because I have to finish my cut by Friday morning.
Anyways, as I was driving home from work, I decided to listen to a bit of this audiobook I have on the subject of world history. The topic of The Huns came up and it was quite interesting. There was a particular quote that kind of stuck with me. It was from a Roman author named Jordanes who described the huns as having “…a sort of shapeless lump, not a head, with pin-holes rather than eyes.” And so this drawing up above is kind of what I pictured in my head at the time.
I spent a lot of extra time attempting to render more realistic textures by using the shading stump. Still inspired by the Steve Pilcher pencil drawings I mentioned yesterday, I wanted to at least attempt something kind of similar. Even though this guy is nowhere near the quality of Steve Pilcher’s expert drawings. Still, I’m pretty happy with my drawing. I think he looks pretty foreboding and creepy.
