I feel like I finally had some semblance of control over the watercolor tonight. I realized on the last watercolor I did that I have a real problem with over-painting. I just waste a lot of paint without diluting enough and my strokes end up splotchy. Tonight, I tried to remember the words “More water, less color” and it turned out to be pretty good advice. When I mixed the colors together I did it in tiny conservative puddles rather than large ones, which helped me to keep a level of restraint in prepping the brush with paint.
It felt good. I still made a bunch of mistakes through the process and, admittedly, it’s really not that great of a painting by most standards but it felt good to see a bit of that light at the end of the tunnel. I think I may need to continue practicing this stuff.
