I’m surprised I decided to draw this picture today because it’s a sunday and I’m at work. I didn’t want to take on anything too challenging since I’m working here late. Nevertheless, I needed a break from the cutting. I went into this one thinking I was just going to draw a realistic eye. So I looked through some of my reference photos on my computer and I came across this picture. A close up photograph of Junie when she was probably just a year old. Those big beautiful eyes were staring at me and I thought “What the heck. I’ll just draw those eyes.”
I have, up to this point, been shying away from pictures Junie because her skin is so light and so smooth. It’s a challenge to get the proportions correct when there’s so much space between the features. Once I began drawing I was soon pleasantly surprised that my proportions were looking pretty good. Junie’s eyes came together so surprisingly fast that I decided to draw the rest of her face. I also attempted to stay away from the charcoal pencils unless I was looking to really darken an area up. In all, I spent about an hour drawing this.
I have to say that after drawing this I have realized that this drawing-a-day thing is really actually helping a lot.
Wow. I am sure June will cherish these drawings someday. You are very talented sir. :)
Thanks Lisa!
