Drawing 004 – Action Poses

Drawing004ActionPoses

I bought a book today, “How To Draw Comics The Marvel Way”.  I was turned onto it after watching some segments from the video version of this same book on youtube.  I’m so glad I got it.  It’s a great drawing book!  It reminded me of the drawing books I used to have as a kid and it really simply breaks down the process for drawing comic book style.  I realize that I need quite a bit of practice in body shapes and positions and I think the method laid out in this book is going to really help me expand my repertoire of poses.

I’ve never drawn this way.  As a kid, I drew lots of faces.  Most of the time I would omit the body altogether.  When I did draw a body it was usually slouched, lanky and with hands hidden away in pockets.  That way I never had to even think about drawing hands.  The method in this book starts with a stick figure which makes it easier to create a variety of positions and camera angles.

I can certainly see plenty of proportional flaws in these drawings but I’m happy with the positions I’ve decided to put them in.
