Day 310 / Another Cube Cluster

January 10th, 2011

I woke up this morning feeling kind of grimy from sleeping on a sofa at work.  I was woken up by my co-workers arriving.  I got up and cleaned myself up a little, picked up some coffee and headed off to set.

Today was another crazy press day.  The last of the three heavy press days until sometime later this month.  I was able to get out a little earlier and spend some fun time with June before it was her bedtime.  It was nice to see my wonderful family after being away at work for so long.

I tucked Jenny into bed, except this time I set my alarm for 11:45pm.  I knew it was inevitable I would fall asleep tucking her in.  The alarm rang and I got up.

I knew exactly what I wanted to do because I’d been thinking about it for a while.  On Day 306 I had my first experience with a dip-pen.  I attempted to make a cluster of cubes but didn’t really create the kind of image that I wanted to.  So tonight I gave it another go and this time I got closer to what I had initially envisioned.  I used a still from my video on Day 114 as a reference.

While I still think it looks a bit amateur I enjoy using the dip pen quite a bit.  I really want to get the hang of it.

after seeing the few of these that you’ve done, i think i like the first one best. i like how messy/organic it is. kind of reminiscent of ralph steadman.

Thanks man. I meant to add some splatter to this one as well but I got too tired. I get what your saying but I think this one is closest i’ve come to actually realizing what I meant to create. I think it still needs more shading and splatter. The two drops of black in there now are actual accidents.

    Thanks for the comment, Jared.
