It’s supposed to be a pine cone.
Jenny proposed this creative endeavor. She told me that she was thinking of making a potato stamp for the “to / from” cards on our christmas gifts.
I was all for it. A potato stamp is the perfect creative project. I was foolish to not look up how it’s done. I never realized how tough it is to actually see the lines your creating in the potato. I used an Xacto blade and scored my drawing into it. The only problem was that once I’d finished scoring it I couldn’t see the grooves. The inside of the potato was wet and whatever crevasses I cut seemed to disappear instantly.
Ultimately, I scored too many lines and the original image kind of fell apart. It appeared OK when you looked directly at the potato but once you stamped it out on paper it was apparent that the pine cone was a little less than perfect.
I shouldn’t have thrown in the towel on this. I could have tried again or perhaps drawn something easier but soon after Jenny was off to bed and I fell asleep with her. I woke up much later and had some other priorities to take care of.
I had to gather up some audio samples for the next Monome Community Remix Project. This time the theme is movies and I pulled all of my samples from one of my favorites, The Hudsucker Proxy. One of the best scores ever, in my opinion.
The latest Remix Project, A Christmas themed one, recently ended. I didn’t finish my own christmas track in time. I have been feeling less musically inspired lately. Hopefully that will turn around. Anyways, have a listen or download A Very Monome Christmas album, if you like.
