Drawing 020 – The Tollund Man

Drawing020Tollundman

Last night we watched the film “Samsara” in my backyard and all day today the thought of it stuck with me.  This guy in the drawing above is the “Tollund Man”.  He is one of the most well-preserved corpses of prehistoric man that we are able to see today.  You get to see all of his many details up-close and personal near the beginning of the film.  Watching his face is very eerie.  He is so well-preserved that it feels like he might suddenly open his eyes.  At the same time, you can also see the centuries of dirt on his face.  The film spends a lot of time presenting t0 the audience the vast array of cultures that we humans have developed into and this guy serves as one of the first examples.  It’s a really amazing film and I recommend watching it.

Regarding the drawing, I think I may have gone a bit overboard with the shading but whatevs.  It was a good exercise.

Thanks man! You should definitely see Samsara if you haven’t yet. I think with your current photo series project you might find it especially compelling. I can’t stop thinking about certain bits.
