I have been very busy lately at work. In the meantime, watch this video.
It’s made by Don Whitaker. I’ve mentioned him before. His video’s have been very inspiring to me.
He has a numbered series of video exercises he calls brainblink. This one is special. It’s a stream near his house where the water flows over black rock. He focused the camera on a spot where the water splashes up regularly and filmed it at 230 frames per second. Then he brought it into the computer and used a simple mirror effect.
What you see is…well, I think Don describes it best, “Astonishing complexity and infinite variety are everywhere”
Watch the video for a while. It takes a bit for it to kick in but when it does you will see what I mean.
What do you see? I saw skulls, insects, ballet dancers, indian goddesses, a tiger, and a giant fish coming right at me. The second time I watched it, I saw a whole new batch of things.
No. I am not high.
Enjoy!

One response to “Totems”
The pattern (mirroring) makes it so pleasing and makes the complexity perhaps more graspable to the mind… Simple pattern, staggering complexity.
