Day 357 / Crumpled Paper

February 26th, 2011

This morning I had breakfast with the family and then I had to drive 60 miles out to Simi Valley to pick up a toner cartridge.  It was the only black toner cartridge in Southern California that I could pick up on a Saturday.

When I got home I spent time with June and played with her until it was almost dinner time.  Afterwards, I met up with my mom at my dad’s office and she gave me the rundown on the plotter and how it works.  My dad has this sweet large format printer which I’m going to use for the larger scale prints.

This printer works great and the images come out looking nice and sharp.  Because I’m printing larger sizes I have more downtime while it prints.  While I waited I decided to try out this origami trick I’d seen in a youtube video some time back.  What it’s supposed to create is this cool Nelson-Riddle-looking paper ball.  Unfortunately, I couldn’t get the thing to fold up like it was supposed to.

I think my mistake was in the speed with which I folded everything.  I didn’t crease it as tightly as I should have.  Also, I used a pretty heavy weight paper so that made it harder to push it into shape.

Oh well, I still kind of like the texture that was left on the paper.
