I had a shoot today. I was actually the cameraman which was a nice change of pace. It’s been a while since I’ve used the equipment at the office. We had a burglary some time ago and the lighting kit we have now is all new so it was good to get to some practice with it.
I was shooting in the Santa Monica area so it was a pretty long drive to get home. I had been thinking that perhaps my creative thing could entail using record covers. I thought about doing a thing that I’d seen on the net where you take multiple record covers and place them together to create composite images. For example, I’ve seen Micheal Jackson’s Thriller where he’s lying down on his back combined with another album cover with a pair of female legs in high heels, making it look like Micheal’s actually wearing the high heels.
Although I liked the idea I decided to do a collage instead. I went into my studio and pulled any record cover that I found funny or unusual and that I felt okay about cutting up. I found quite a few. I brought them into the house and began cutting. I initially thought I’d make the collage this evening but as I cut things out I realized that it took quite a lot of time to do certain details.
I had planned on gluing my pieces to this piece of MDF board from an old ikea coffee table that I had altered but I realized that I should probably go with poster board where I could cut the canvas shape to best fit the collage when it’s done.
I got through about half of the records that I pulled out for slicing and dicing. I will have to continue this project on another day.

I love this one!
Ha, thanks Jose. I need to put in another day of work into this.
These are wonderful!
Thanks Inthia, It’s funny because people have reacted positively to the photographs of it and I haven’t even glued it together. I just threw something together for the picture. All those pieces are in a plastic bag in my house.
