The rain has begun here. It’s supposed to rain for the next week. I think it might be the longest stint of rain all year. I remember there was a couple storms this year but I don’t think any of them lasted for a complete week. I could be wrong about that.
I stayed in Burbank a little while after work tonight because I didn’t want to go directly into the traffic. It didn’t matter really because I still got caught in it. Combine the rain with excess oil on the roads from months without rain and add rushing christmas shoppers and you have a recipe for disaster. I took it easy and drove nice and slow.
Tonight’s creative thing was inspired by an artist named Stefan G. Bucher. I came across his website and blog a few months ago. It’s called The Daily Monster. He draws a monster a day among other things.
His method is interesting. The way he starts off every monster is he brushes some black ink in a particular area on the page and then, using a regular drinking straw, blows the ink randomly in all directions. What ends up happening is the ink forms these thin trails outward which can look cool and chaotic.
After he’s finished blowing the ink across the paper he draws a unique monster around that wild splotch using black pens and brushes. It’s usually a nice surprise to see the direction he takes each one.
Basically, this evening I used the same method to create my own set of wacky monsters.
It was a fun project and very relaxing to do.

love Stefans stuff (and yours as well). my wife actually had him do a show on her website (artforemptywalls). very cool.
Thanks Rabbitears, I first saw him in a video on the net. I want to say it was a Ted talk but I’m not so sure. I think he’s kind of a big deal. His home smells of rich mahogany and he has many leather-bound books.
