For the first time in a long time I actually did my creative thing in the daytime. When Jenny and I took our vacation to northern California I picked up a few things for future creative projects. One of which was this Sunprint kit.
At work at the moment I’m working on the new DVD/Blu-Ray release of Disney’s Bambi and because of that I’ve been looking at the artwork of Tyrus Wong which if you’ve never heard of him you should look him up. He did a ton of visual development for that film which is seriously beautiful. Well, todays creative thing was inspired by that artwork.
I cut the branch out of a 3X5 card which was thick enough that I knew no light would pass through it. I wanted the leaves to be a different tone so I cut them from paper towel because I knew a lot of light would pass through it. I did two exposures. The one on the right I kept in the sun for about 5 minutes and then soaked it in the water for a couple of minutes. The one on the left I kept in the sun for about 2 minutes and soaked for only about 1 minute. I think they turned out pretty cool and I’m looking forward to playing around more with various thickness of paper and maybe attempting to recreate some famous scenes from film history in this medium.
