I have plans to do a small mural in Junes room.   On the wall behind her crib I’m going to paint a tree arching over with many birds and other wildlife inhabiting it.  The style of it is inspired by Charley Harpers work.

If you don’t know who Charley Harper is you need to find out.   I think he could be the coolest artist who ever lived.  Most of his artwork is created using hard lines and geometric shapes.   He has a large series of wildlife paintings that boggle me.  The way he shows us the form of whatever animal he’s depicting is truly unique.  It’s on one side incredibly simple and on the other amazingly detailed and complex.

Anyways, tonight I tried my hand at that style in order to prep for junes mural.   I knew I wouldn’t be able to recreate his style without some drafting tools to keep my line clean . So, I stopped by Michaels and picked up rulers, protractors and multiple shape templates.   The shape templates were very useful.

I hope you enjoy!
