Day 045 / Grain and Other Things

So a few things…

First thing worth mentioning:  Today I spent the majority of the day at Skywalker Ranch.  What an amazing privilege it was to be there.   Driving through the gates and making our way up to the location was similar to something like entering Hearst Castle.   I felt like if I saw a giraffe it would be completely normal.  I didn’t really get to explore the place but you quickly get the idea that it’s a very large piece of land.

Second Thing:  There is this interesting mural painted on the windows of the Oakland airport that I find rather ironic.  It’s a painting on glass of a bunch of cranes flying over some kind of map.  I read the information on the card next to it and it said it was based on traditional chinese painting.   The only thing I found odd was that the artist used a technique where she let the paint run down the glass.   Combine that with the fact that the color she used was red. It appeared as though a bunch of bloody cranes were flying accross the windows.   An ironic image when you think about the crash that happened a ways back due to birds getting caught in the engines on take off.  I don’t know, I just saw it and felt like it was worth sharing.

And finally, my creative thing today.   A few days ago the latest MCRP (Monome Community Remix Project) started.   This time is version 5 and the rule is only vocal samples, which means that every sample has to be either someone singing or talking, no musical instruments.   So this evening I decided to play around a little with a few of these samples.   Since they’re vocal samples I felt like using a Monome app that doesn’t really get any play anymore but is great fun with voice samples called Grain.  I really love this app and it has a lot of potential.

I hope you enjoy!
