This time around I watched a few youtube videos of watercolor techniques before finally sitting down and trying to paint.  The painting definitely turned out much better than the last time.
I like watercolor.  It intrigues me because it seems to be a real test in restraint.   In contrast to oil paints, where you can keep blending an area until its under control, with watercolor you can quite easily go too far very quickly.  It happened on tonights painting with the trunk of the tree, for example, my initial strokes had a unique quality to them and it looked really sweet. But then I tried adding a highlight or something like that and inevitably I mess up and go too far.  Unfortunately, there is no going backwards in watercolor.
