Day 315 / Arrangement Mode

January 15th, 2011

Tonight I decided to work on my track for MCRP V9.  The due date for final tracks is the 21st and I don’t want to let my progress fall by the wayside.  I have to admit this evening I was having trouble getting things working.

I’m jumping from the place I left off on Day 302 / Grainslide.  That recording had received a warm response from people so I wanted flesh it out more, add a beat, other parts, etc.

Getting it quantized to a beat without destroying the natural feel of it was like pulling teeth.  I almost gave up and just decided to go without a beat.  Eventually, I was able to get the piece conformed to a tempo.  Now, when I add more layers with the monome it will be  easier to place them in time.

The second thing I did this evening was add some accompaniment with the monome app Grainslide.  I like the way this app treats audio files.  This time around wasn’t as fruitful as Day 302 because the samples I used tonight were only dialogue samples.  Because this MCRP is movie themed I figured I better put those dialogue clips to use.

I loaded the dialogue clips into Grainslide and selected tiny snippets of them to find pitches.  Once I found a pitch that I felt matched my piece I recorded a short solo with it.  I repeated this over and over again with multiple dialogue samples.

Since it’s getting close to the final submission deadline I don’t want to give away what the final track might sound like, out of respect for the others working on they’re own tracks.  As I continue to work on this song I will try to give you a sample of what I created that day without giving away too much.

Tonight, though, I don’t have an audio sample for you.  Most of my time was spent arranging and none of my Grainslide solos are that spectacular on their own.

Sorry!
