Day 094 / RJDJ – Zen Street

I stayed at the office last night again.  I got another day on the piece I’m editing which is actually a relief.  So, I’m getting closer to finishing.  I can see the vacation at the end of the tunnel so I’m just powering through.

When I left the house I happened to have grabbed my ipod touch which I haven’t had on my person for about a year.  It has been serving as a very expensive white noise generator for June’s room to help her sleep.  We never wanted to pull it out of there because she’s gotten used to the sound of it and I’m to lazy or dumb to go buy a regular sleep noise generator from Target myself.  Anyways, it’s been hotter here in Southern California and now June sleeps with a fan on so Daddy gets his ipod back.  One of these days I’m going to stop by Target on the way home.

Anyways, many of you may have heard of this app on the iphone called RJDJ.  It’s super awesome.  It’s got a collection of what they call “Scenes” which are basically just little effects processors that make use of the microphone and process the sounds around you.  They’re really neat.  It’s got a scene called “World Quantizer” which takes percussive sounds that you make, like your footsteps or the opening of a door as you walk through it, and chops them up to a beat in your ears.  So suddenly the world around you becomes music.

The “Scene” I used for my creative project tonight is called “Eargasm”  What it does is reacts to the amplitude of the world around you and adds sonorous chords to it.  It’s really quite beautiful actually.  So, I took my camera and ipod touch outside and recorded the traffic as it passed.

Go ahead and zen out to the final product below.
