I had to work late this evening. Everything is ramping up for me at work. It’s going to be pretty busy for me through the month of May. It makes this creative-thing-a-day thing a little tougher to fit into my schedule.
Tonight I decided to do more drawing in my sketch book. I did have a little different focus this time around.
As I said in an earlier post I was lucky enough to meet the creator of the end credits to “The Incredibles” and his style as an artist has really inspired me. His name is Teddy Newton and he has a bit of a retro 50’s – 60’s thing going on in his drawings. I have some b-roll of him that shows him drawing a couple of his characters and I noticed his technique consisted of rather hard single strokes of the pencil. Hardly any going over the line multiple times. I sketch out things in a rougher fashion so I tend to leave behind lot’s of construction lines that eventually need to be erased.
So this time around I tried to draw rather quickly with determined hard strokes of the pencil. A couple of times I would go over a line again to thicken and darken it. Anyways, I still need more practice when it comes to emulating that retro style.
In other news, I recently created a facebook page for this blog so if you haven’t already, check out that page and click the “Like” button if you like what you see. Thanks to all those who have commented and left their well wishes and support for me. It’s very encouraging!

That bird, it speaks to me. It’s exactly how I feel when I wake up most days. Mainly work days.
Thanks Inthia! I think I most relate to the grumpy fella on the lined paper. That’s the type of face I usually draw when I’m not really going anywhere with my edit. I’m glad you like the bird. I didn’t know it was going to be a bird but I thought I always draw the same guy that I might as well put a beak on this one. :)
