One Creative Thing A Day

February 10th, 2011
Actually, I can’t believe this is what I did for my creative thing. I couldn’t have waited any later to start my project this evening.
I had the whole day off and I spent much of it working on my art show. I visited the gallery and measured the space and then for the rest of the day I hung out with June. We flew a kite. That was awesome. We had dinner at my parents and once June was off to bed Jenny and I lied on the sofa watching television.
My thought all day was that I would continue work on the dry-erase I started yesterday. I had all the stuff ready to go, except that once it was time to start I felt pretty uninspired. I fell asleep on the sofa and Jenny woke me to tell me she was off to bed. It was 11 at night. I tucked her into bed and by midnight I was sitting on the sofa thinking “what am I going to do?”
I had very few ideas that I felt like I had the energy for. I perused the net for inspiration. I started thinking about Processing and how it’s been a while since I tried writing a code for it. Even that was too much for me to handle at the time. Then I remembered this blog I used to go to quite a bit when I was really into Processing. It’s the blog of an artist named Flight 404. He does amazing designs with software. He has one very popular code that he wrote for processing that is a flock of birds. It’s really an amazing graphic actually.
Anyways, the thought of that brought to mind tonight’s creative project. I thought I could just cut out a bunch of bird shapes. It doesn’t take much thinking and most of the shapes are pretty simple. So I went ahead and started it.
Once I got going I started I had trouble knowing when to stop. I didn’t want to be up too late as I had to go to set in the morning.
At around 1:30 am I switched gears and began cutting the tree shape. By 2 am I was working with the glue. At about 3 am I went to bed.
Anyways, I surprised this is what came out of what felt like a very uninspiring night.
