Day 322 / Arrangement Woes

January 22nd, 2011

I had an extremely long day on the set today.  At wrap we got a new schedule for the film and I had to stay back with the unit publicist and reschedule all of our future dates on the film.  Unfortunately, it turned out that the sunday I thought I was going to have off to finish my track was now a work day and I had to quickly schedule a cameraman and sound to cover it.  So, I got home later than I hoped.

The goal, though, was still to finish my song.  The only problem was that I was beginning to hate it.

The way I started this arrangement was with the recording I made on Day 302 / Grainslide.  I really loved the way that turned out.  Since I felt so good about that recording I decided it would be where I would jump from in creating my final track for MCRP V9.

The struggle on this has been in making something better than the original.  The last time I worked on the arrangement I conformed it to a tempo and added a very basic beat to it.  Then I recorded a bunch of other tracks, (basslines, textures, etc)

Tonight I thought all I was going to do was automate some volumes, do a bit of editing and add some effects.  In reality, very few of the things I did made me feel any better about the song.

I worked very late into the night but much of the time was spent spinning my wheels.  At the very least by the end I had a structure.
