One Creative Thing A Day

This evening I focused on finishing my edit for the montage from yesterday.
I hoped to finish the piece last night but what delayed me was the music. I just couldn’t find the right track. I actually cut three different beginnings using three different songs but ultimately canned them all. I needed a song that was quiet and introspective but also had a beat. But that beat was the hard part. Long drawn out shots of raindrops aren’t exactly complemented by a phat beat. I needed a song with a more subtle balance and at least a few changes here and there.
I started off fresh again this evening with a new track by an artist named Modulogeek. I have mentioned him before. The song is called “Brothers On A Hotel Bed” and its a remix of a Deathcab For Cutie track. It’s part of a short EP that Modulogeek released based on some live performances he’s done.
Awesome little bit of trivia as well: The cover art comes from the blog. Check it out!
I have to say that I’m pretty happy with the final product. It’s a little long at the end but I love seeing many of the macro shots play out in full. I was very pleased with my camera setup. Lodging the tripod in the passenger seat of my car and filming out the window made for some nice dolly shots. I still wish I pulled out my macro lens sooner because it would have been nice to film the water droplets in the brightest possible light. By the time I started it was already darkening out there.
Near the end of the montage I begin playing with the light from a lamp post coming through a droplet of water. I like how this footage suddenly loses it’s connection to being a drop of water and begins to look like something different, something almost celestial.
Anyways I hope you enjoy!
