Saturdays creative thing was an easy one to pick because it was already decided for me.  This evening was my buddy Jeff’s birthday party.  His special request for his birthday was that we all play a game we used to call James Bond

I’d never done it before but it was popular with our group of friends many years ago.  The way it worked was that everyone would meet at location A, in this case it was the Muckenthaler Center in Fullerton, and be categorized as either a runner or a chaser.  The runners ran on foot and the chasers chased by car.  The directive was that runners had to make it to location B, Jeff’s house, without getting caught by any chasers.  At the starting bell the runners are given a 5 minute head start before any of the chasers can get into their cars.  The distance between location A and location B was approximately 2 miles.

I was completely winded 2 minutes into the 5 minute head start so I was a little worried that I might get caught very early in the race.  Luckily I got myself to a nearby church to hide before the 5 minutes were up.  I partnered up with my buddy Reuban and we had a blast sneaking through the streets and alleys of Fullerton acting ultra-paranoid at the sight of even a single car.

It was an extremely visceral experience.  We joked that we felt like we were black ops or something, briskly walking on our toes, our steps on the wet pavement as the only sound, snapping behind trash barrels as suspicious vehicles passed by.  It was all good fun.

We got the text message that Dean had won the race about four or five blocks from the destination.  At that point it could be assumed that no one was out looking for us anymore but Reuban and I still cautiously continued to Jeff’s house.  Once we got there we found that we were the last to arrive!  Other than first and second place we were the only other group not to get caught by a chaser.  Everyone at the party gave us a hard time though saying that it didn’t even count because no one was looking for us.  Well, I certainly didn’t listen to that nonsense.  I was proud of our effort and Reuban and I had a great time doing it.

Afterwards we all played a rousing game of movie charades.  It was all good.

The video below is just a quick and dirty select of footage in chronological order of how the night went.

Enjoy!

great video and cool game! I might try to talk some friends into a variant. how do the chasers catch a runner? basically just by spotting them?

    Thanks for the comments guys!

@Elliot – Normally there was approx 2 to 3 people in each car and the chasers had to spot the runner and get out and tag them. So most catches ended in a little foot chase. It was great fun. A little more exciting then the usual.

    Thanks
