One Creative Thing A Day

Today’s project was a real shot in the dark for me. I was completely out of my element.
It was a beautiful day. The weather was the best it’s been in a while. I flew up to Berkeley this morning to do an interview for work. Since tomorrow’s Mothers day I knew that I wanted my creative project today to have something to do with Jenny. She has made it abundantly clear to me, with the use of a tough tone and a piercing look, that being that we have a kid now, Mother’s Day is right up there on the top of the list of most important holiday’s.
Inspiration struck at the airport on my way home when I saw a pretty girl with a flower in her hair. She reminded me of Jenny. It’s a rare occasion or at least a special event for Jenny to wear a flower in her hair. It hasn’t happened in a long time. And there’s something romantic about a flower in a woman’s hair. So suddenly it occurred to me that maybe I could make her some kind of thing for her hair. Something like a flower. That is when I decided I would attempt to make her a flower barrette.
I really thought the idea was good for awhile. I went to Michael’s and raided the earthy branches aisle and fake flowers aisle. As I was heading home with my supplies I realized something that almost made me smack my forehead. When I was picturing Jenny with a flower in her hair I was remembering a Jenny from many years ago when she had longer hair. Right now she has pretty short hair and what’s the use of a monster-sized flower barrette if you don’t really have much hair to hold up.
Anyway, so when I went into my studio with all these branches, flowers and twine I really had no clue what I was going to do with it. In the end I dismissed the whole short hair thing and made the barrette I’d pictured in the first place. It’s the thought that counts right?
I also bought her a Home Depot gift card. She loves Home Depot.
