Day 033 / New Sketchbook

So last night was such an epic project I decided to go for something a little less involved.  The story goes that from the age of six to somewhere around sophomore year in high school I had the impression that I was going to be an animator when I grew up.  That was, until I got my hands on a video camera and I came to the conclusion that I could get the same kind of satisfaction in filmmaking that I was searching for in animation except without all the repetitive labor.

So, this afternoon I bought myself a new sketchbook.  It’s the first one since my high school days.  The truth is, I’m not that skilled of an artist.  I can’t really draw hands or realistic bodies.  I practiced a drawing style after my favorite cartoon director, Chuck Jones.  When I was younger, drawing was a popular way to pass the time in my room at nights.  At some point I’ve lost that spirit but would like to get it back.  It’s an incredibly peaceful thing to be zoomed into a piece of paper for the evening.

In other news, yesterday my blog got posted on the MAKEZINE blog so I may suddenly have more traffic on these pages.  If you’re new to the site and this is your first visit, welcome.  Be sure to check out the “Year So Far” link.  It’s only been 33 days but its already been a very interesting and satisfying experience for me.  It gives me the feeling that over the course of this year I may be doing some things that I would’ve never expected to be doing.  Anyways, all the best and thanks for checking out the site.
